November club meeting and a new repeater

Hello All!

It's nearly club meeting time again. This month's meeting will be held on Tuesday November 17 at 7 PM at the Yarmouth EMO building (behind the fire hall on Pleasant St). As always, all members are encouraged to attend. We also welcome non-members and those folks interested in amateur radio.

I would also like to let everyone know that our brand new Yaesu System Fusion (C4FM) is up and running on VE1YAR UHF (444.700+). Currently it is running in mixed mode so that you can use it using digital as well as in analogue mode. There are still a few tweaks left to make but for the most part, the installation is complete. We will also be putting in a second C4FM repeater on VHF at some point in the future.

It went live on Saturday November 14 2015 and it appears that this is the first System Fusion repeater in the Maritimes. Thanks to VE1IC, VE1RB, and VE1UT for getting it up and running.

Sorry for the late post but I wanted to pass along a note that the October 2015 monthly meeting (and AGM) is being held tonight at 7pm at the Yarmouth EOC (behind the fire hall in Yarmouth).

Since this is also the annual general meeting, we will be holding the election of officers for this year. Dues are also due at this time as well.

The VE1YAR VHF repeater is currently off the air

Hello All,

Just a quick post to let you know that VE1YAR VHF (146.730) is currently off the air. The Captain's Net has been moved over to VE1EKV (147.105 +) until further notice. VE1EKV still has access to MAVCOM but does not have IRLP access.

We have the following repeaters that are available for use:

1. VE1YAR UHF (444.700 +)
2. VE1LN VHF (146.865 -)
3. VE1LN UHF (442.700 +)
4. VE1EKV VHF (147.105 +)

Other local repeaters (not YARC managed) available for use:

1. VE1OPK VHF (147.255+)
2. VE1KDE UHF (443.800 +)

The club is going to be purchasing a new repeater to replace the old 730 machine.  This will likely take a few weeks to receive and configure.

73 for now!

Repairs to the building at VE1YAR

For quite some time now, we've had problems with moisture and water in the building at the VE1YAR site. This past Saturday, VE1IC and I (VE1XT) went out there and patched up the hole we found on the roof.

The hole, with the previous patch removed, is as big as Max's foot!

We started with a layer of sealant followed by a layer of fiber glass cloth, and more sealant.

Then we covered it with a layer of aluminum, then more sealant.

Here is the finished product, after another layer of fiber glass cloth covered with more sealant.

If all goes well, this should fix the problem with the leaky roof for a while.
